The idea that poor people need hand-outs is not only a myth but a disservice to them. Hand-outs create dependency and dependency disempowers people and continues the cycle of poverty. Identifying low-cost, income-generating technologies that can be locally produced enhances the local economy for everyone—especially the small players. Moreover, when a technology is offered through the free market it means technical assistance and customer service is available to the end-user, which improves the effectiveness and impact of the product.
There is no more direct way to help someone overcome poverty than by offering a way for them to earn more money.
Nutrition and dietary diversity are critical components to GCI model.
GCI strives to exploit the free market as a means up helping people escape poverty rather than be victims of it.
